HandyPaste compared with other snippet apps
There's more than one good way to stop retyping on a Mac. These pages set HandyPaste next to the tools people most often ask about, side by side and without the sales pitch. Each one says where the other app is the better fit.
The short version
Most snippet tools are text expanders: you type an abbreviation like ;addr and it turns into your address as you type. To do that, they need to see every key you press.
HandyPaste works the other way round. Press ⌥⌘V in any app, type a few letters of the snippet you want, and press Return. It pastes where you were typing. Until you press the shortcut, HandyPaste does nothing and watches nothing.
